A day after brutal attacks on students and professors in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus by some masked goons, protests broke out in several parts of India on Monday (January 6) against the attack on JNU students.
During one such protest at Mumbai's Gateway of India on Monday (January 6), a girl was spotted holding 'Free Kashmir' poster. The display of this message is surprising because when the protest was called for expressing solidarity with JNU students, why were people carrying placards with controversial messages written on them?
The girl displaying the poster has been identified as Mehak Mirza Prabhu and she is a storyteller and blogger. "I was at the protest at churchgate today with a placard that said Free Kashmir. I did mean freedom from the internet shutdown, free movement. I am a non kashmiri, who feels for the plight of kashmiris and feel that all issues need to be talked about and not forgotten. Peace," she tweeted.
In a related development, MS Randhawa, Delhi Police PRO, on Monday (January 6) told media that probe has been launched into the attack onJNU students and professors by some masked goons on Sunday (January 5).
He added that a total of four FIRs have been registered in connection with this case, out of which three FIRs were registered on Sunday.Delhi Police sources said that students from both ABVP and Left groups had called people from outside the campus and these outsiders were involved inviolence inside the JNU campus. According to Randhawa, Delhi Police's Joint CP Western range, Shalini Singh, will lead a fact-finding committee formed to probe this matter.
